Welcome to the PA Biodiesel Supply Blog!

We’ve been selling centrifuges since about 2008. In 2005 we started making biodiesel moving from that to vegetable oil and again into motor oil blends. At present we drive both a 2001 VW Beetle and a 1982 VW Vanogan )with a brand new 1.9 turbo engine) on vegetable oil. We sold our 1982 VW Pickup as it was hard for two grown adults to comfortably sit in it! We have a 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins running on a motor oil blend.

Five years ago, probably 98% of our customers were using vegetable oil. Today it’s probably 50% vegetable oil and 50% motor oil. The change came about as the price of diesel rose and the value of vegetable oil went up, hence store owners were able to sell their oil rather than give it away. If you’re thinking about getting into vegetable oil, don’t let that deter you. My wife went and I recently went into nearby Harrisburg, PA and the average price was 60 cents/gallon. What we found out was that there seemed to be no loyalty. If you’re willing to offer more, restaurant owners are willing to give you their oil. Quite honestly, I think sometimes a restaurant owner would rather give it to you as an individual they have a personal relationship with rather than a large company. As for waste motor oil, you can still get it for free. Even that is being sought after and has a value of 55-65 cents/gallon in our area. I’m not sure about cross country pricing – this may be the average price elsewhere. All that being said, the central PA diesel price as of March 8, 2013 is $4.15/gallon so paying 60-65 cents for waste vegetable oil or 50-65 cents for waste motor oil is still a “no brainer”!

As we’ve said, our business is www.pabiodieselsupply.com. We also operate Centrifuge Oil Filtration, www.centrifugeoilfiltration.com which services industrial applications. Our focus is centrifuge oil filtration both in the alternative fuel market and the industrial/marine market. While the centrifuge has been around for seventy plus years, there is not a filter around that can do what a centrifuge can do! We offer a forum library that has just about every forum out there that has any real relevance. The library is broken down into WVO sections, WMO sections, specific vehicle sections, and a generator section. While our knowledge base is oil filtration, waste motor oil blends are all over the board, blending percentages and what people are blending with. For instance, when customers ask if their 2005 Duramax can run on wmo and what their blend should be, we direct them to the forums where they can talk to someone who owns that exact vehicle and is blending. The following link will take you to the library. http://www.pabiodieselsupply.com/link.htm.

Our idea in starting this blog is that those interested can post and interact with others relating to alternative fuels. Of course, we will also respond where appropriate. What we never want this blog to be is a way to promote our own products. Feel free to post!
